I think this is one of the most important books I have read on this subject. While it does a good job of explaining the facts and evidence that led to the jury’s verdict in the Jeffrey MacDonald murder trial, I have to admit that I still question a large amount of the evidence that was presented at the trial. I’m still not convinced that the man who killed MacDonald, Christopher Darden, was guilty.
The case against Darden was extremely strong, but the case against MacDonald was a lot weaker. While there is a lot of evidence that points to MacDonald having been the actual killer, there is a lot of evidence that points to Darden killing MacDonald. And while the jury could have come to one conclusion, in the end they came to the opposite conclusion.
It is a good thing that we have a good evidence of MacDonald’s guilt, or at least a good reason to believe that there was a motive for killing. It also shows that Darden was guilty, but he was not. The jury found MacDonald guilty only of murder, and it’s the jury’s job to find him guilty of murder. It’s hard to imagine a person who was not guilty of murder at the time of the murders would have been.
I don’t buy the logic that they wanted to find MacDonald guilty of murder. As far as I know, there were witnesses to the murders, they were all dead. MacDonald was not there at the time of the murder and there was no motive for him to have been there.
MacDonald was sentenced to life in prison but will be out in 3 years. There is no way in hell he will ever get out. Not even the most hardened psychopath is capable of getting out of prison.
This is a common misconception in the crime-solving world, but MacDonald was not the killer. After the murders MacDonald’s girlfriend, Nicole, is shown to have committed suicide. There is no way for anyone other than he/she to commit suicide. The killings were random, not premeditated.
The fact is, the person who committed the murders, the murderer, was not MacDonald, but his sister. She was the one who committed suicide. And she did it for the purpose of protecting the rest of the family, not to get out of prison. All true! So when you hear a story like this, don’t automatically assume the person committing the crime was a psychopath. The fact that he was the only one responsible is not proof that he is the type.
In fact, if you were to take the facts as presented, and look at them in a different way, you could come to a different conclusion. MacDonald was a psychopath. He didn’t just take the life of his sister and then go on about it. MacDonald, and his sister, were the ones who killed the others, and they did it by committing random, senseless acts. It wasn’t random. It was premeditated.
This makes sense. A psychopath could never just do random acts. Theyre not rational enough to do that. They need to have something going for them. A psychopath has something going for him, such as an overwhelming hatred for his mother, who was the one who raised him. He couldnt just turn on the TV and watch the news and think, “That’s about to end.” He would need that to turn him on.
The last thing we want to do is make sure that the entire place is a victim’s nightmare. That’s what the story is about, in case you don’t know that.
