At first glance it’s hard to imagine what this scene would have looked like after a massive earthquake. But if you look closely, you can actually see the difference. Much of the lower city was flattened, and much of the upper city was damaged. The entire city of Dubai was affected.
It’s been a few years since we last had one of those, so I’m not sure if anyone has ever told you that the city of Dubai is the largest in the Middle East. And it is. It’s in the Arabian Peninsula, and has a population of over 1.4 million people. The earthquake has caused the death of over 2,000 people, with thousands of others injured. But the damage it has caused, and the death and injury it has caused, is still huge.
The official death toll is over 1,200, but that’s not including the hundreds of thousands of those who were forced to evacuate and were injured or lost their homes.
As well as the tragedy, the earthquake has also caused thousands of other injuries and has left thousands of buildings with structural damage. The government is now working to rebuild the city, and the state is also continuing to support local businesses and provide aid and assistance.
In the meantime, the area is being surveyed for potential earthquakes, so anyone who wants to help should contact the government or go to their area in advance.
